New ‘Skills For Life’ Program Empowers Locals to Learn, Grow, and Thrive

A new community-based program is set to transform the lives of locals who want to strengthen their essential skills, boost their confidence, and open doors to new opportunities.

Community Foundation Skills – ‘Skills For Life’ offers tailored assistance to people who need to improve their reading, writing, maths, or computer skills. The program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and confidence they need to take on further education, training, or employment.

More than just a learning program, Skills For Life addresses the unique barriers individuals may face when seeking work or further study. Participants benefit from personalised support that builds job readiness, boosts self-esteem, and prepares them for real-world opportunities.

As part of the program, learners can access hands-on training to gain practical qualifications that employers value, including:

  • Driving Lessons – helping participants gain the independence and mobility needed for work.
  • First Aid Certification – providing vital skills that can make a difference in emergencies.
  • RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) & RGS (Responsible Gambling Services) – opening up opportunities in the hospitality industry.

IN-STeP Staff work closely with participants to provide personalised job search support, connecting them with local employment opportunities and helping them take confident steps toward their career aspirations.
